Parks and Recreation Commission
The Parks and Recreation Commission will strive for excellence in teamwork to:
- Preserve and protect open space and parklands
- Be responsive to community needs for leisure, cultural, and social programs
- Affirm the diversity in the community
- Maintain its availability, visibility, and accessibility to the community and the media
- Promote safety in all facilities and programs
- Be financially responsible
- Maintain a liaison between the community and City Council
Develop and implement a Communications Plan with the user groups, including an annual report from those user groups.
Assign commissioners to be liaisons to the users groups to improve communications.
Research and complete outreach to determine how the City is doing in terms of satisfying community needs for community service programs.
The research should include what the City's cost recovery is.
Develop a plan for (better) working relationships with the school districts in Menlo Park.
Investigate and evaluate the use of public/private partnerships.
What are the pros and cons?
Research should include contacting other cities for their experiences. This will include operational and privatization of services.
Develop a plan for programming and priority of use and adequacy of facilities for users.
Meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center. Note: This meeting is held annually at the Onetta Harris Community Center. Staff support: Cherise Brandell, Community Services Director, 330-2200.
